Hi, don't know if i've gone a bit off on a tangent here and the narrative may be completely unlikely but anyway it can all be changed if needs be. I am thinking of looking at immigration for the symposium and how this might relate to the site in regards to the poorer surrounding dock areas bordering the basins.

I have begun creating a narrative behind this, taking the present issue of the rise in nationalism in Europe and the US as a starting point. I was thinking about what would happen if nationalist right wing Party for Freedom (lead by Geert Wilders) comes to power in the Netherlands and the Netherlands holds a EU referendum (Nexit). Possibly following a trend of other european countries exiting?

This would then lead to a dramatic decline in the influx of immigrants to the Netherlands and Rotterdam. There would be another economic recession in europe and after dealing with this slump eventually at some point the central  European Democracy is formed. This once again opens up borders for easier migration of people.  

Rotterdam then begins to actively promote migration to the city in order to maintain sea defences/ work in the port and improve economy? Rotterdam has an huge influx of workers with many different national origins and as this increases overtime the city eventually becomes overcrowded.

Heijplaat's  derelict industrial buildings (warehouses, ships ect.) start to be inhabited and adapted for use by squatters, many of these immigrants. After a resurgence in the squatting movement squatting become decriminalised resulting in possible interesting parasite architecture?

I was thinking of making a time line of the key events in this narrative along side a graph showing the levels immigration in Rotterdam over this time. I would also show a few  news articles and campaign ads in relation to this. 

Would be nice to have something else as well but not sure yet.

Im not sure of the dates yet and am also concerned whether this clashes with other peoples micro narratives?
